The 2023 Kennedy Cup kicks off in Limerick on Monday 12th June. This tournament is held annually in Limerick University when each of the 32 affiliated Leagues enters a squad of twenty U14 year old players to compete over an entire week with additional competitions for those teams that do not progress to the latter stages of the Kennedy Cup itself. First held in 1976, it has been the platform for the cream of young Irish soccer talent to showcase their skills. Amongst the past players to have participated in the tournament are Roy Keane, Damien Duff, John O’Shea and Stephen Ireland. It's a great experience for all the players involved and gives them a taste of what life as a professional soccer player must be like as they will eat and live football for the entire week. Clonmel Celtic are well represented this year with Kyle Ryan, Zac Acyen and Ali Hadoud all part of the Tipperary South squad. South Tipperary are in Group 8 with the Midlands and Limerick County and will kick off with a game against the Midlands at 6pm on Monday followed by a game against Limerick County at 12pm on Tuesday. The results in their Group will determine their programme for the rest of the week. The Celtic trio have enjoyed a great start to their domestic season and under the excellent guidance of coaches Barry and Kris sit at the top of the U14 Premier League with a 100% record at the half way stage. They can take their minds of the league for a couple of weeks and focus on the Kennedy Cup and enjoy what should be a memorable experience for the trio. We wish them all the very best of luck.
