Clonmel Celtic failed to progress to the final of the Tipperary Cup after going down 1-0 to Wilderness Rovers at Celtic Park last night. Compared to the recent clash between these two sides this was a much more even affair with Celtic dominating for large parts especially when Wilderness Rovers were reduced to 10 men when their keeper was red carded on the hour mark. Up until then it was a fairly even contest with Celtic having more possession but again they had difficulities creating any clear opportunities. Although Celtic started the brigher it was the visitors who nearly opened the scoring when Sean Brown struck the underside of the bar from close range on five minutes. Celtic who are normally a good passing side were sloppy in possession giving away the ball needlessly on too many occasions. One such slip up proved costly on 29 minutes with Shane O'Meara taking full advantage to race through to square to Sean Brown who had the easy task of tapping the ball into an empty net. Celtic came close to an equaliser before the break when a nice move set up Seanie Hawkins but his effort was just too high. Celtic continued to push forward in the second half but for all their possession their creativity and final ball was letting them down. They had a big opportunity on 60 minutes when Seanie Hawkins was upended by the keeper as he was about to score. The incident lead to the keeper's dismissal but Celtic couldn't take advantage as the penalty was blazed over the bar. With a player advantage Celtic took over for the final 30 minutes but for all their possession and effort they just couldn't force a decent opening despite Seanie Hawkins, Peter O'Dowd and Julian Kerton all coming close. Celtic were themselves reduced to 10 men late on when a mistimed tackle earned a second yellow. Celtic did have the ball in the net in injury time but Cian O'Sullivan's effort was ruled out for a marginal offside and with that went Celtic's chance of making the Tipperary Cup final.
