Clonmel Celtic will contest this season's Paddy Purtill Cup final after a 2-1 win against Wilderness Rovers last night. As was expected this was a tight game not for the purists as both teams gave their all in a rip roaring contest. Celtic started the better but it was the away side that had the first real chance but Sean Brown couldn't keep his shot on target when he broke through the Celtic cover. Celtic made Rovers pay almost immediately for that missed opportunity when Rory O'Dowd picked the ball up outside the box and fired a brillaint effort that left the keeper rooted to the spot. Celtic thought they had doubled their lead when Seanie Hawkins found the net but his effort was ruled out for offisde. The visitors gradually worked their way back into the game. Celtic were unable to impose their possession game as their main ball players were allowed no time on the ball and the play became too rushed. Celtic reached the break with their one goal lead in tact. The visitors started the second half well and had a good spell. They were rewarded when Shane O'Meara equalised on the hour mark. What it lacked in quality the game made up for in effort as both sides continued to play at a relentless pace. On 68 minutes Celtic retook the lead with a sublime finish from Seanie O'Hara. Within minutes Celtic nearly made the game safe but a fine effort from Johnny Cagney was well saved by the Rover's keeper. The visitors rallied late on with some long challenging balls into the box but the Celtic defence held firm to see the game out 2-1 winners. They will now play Peake Villa B in the final, a side they will also meet in the Shield Final.
