Mark Heffernan hit a hat trick as Clonmel Celtic eased into Round 3 of the Tipperary Cup with a thumping 7-0 win away to Fourth Division Killenaule Rovers. After Darren Sweeney went close for Celtic in the opening minutes Mark Heffernan put the visitors ahead on 16 minutes with a good finish. On 20 minutes David Joyce doubled the lead with a long range effort that found the bottom corner. Two minutes later Rory O'Dowd tried his luck from distance with an equally fine effort that found the top corner. Celtic continued to dominate and when Michael Bolger denied Darren Sweeney with a fine save on 40 minutes Mark Heffernan swept home the rebound as Celtic lead 4-0 at the break. Playing up the hill in the second half Celtic remained on top and on 63 minutes it was 5-0 when a defender turned a fine cross from Paddy Ormonde past his own keeper. Darren Swenney brought his season's tally to double figures with a sixth on 70 minutes before Mark Heffernan completed his hat trick to make it 7-0 with a fine finish on 83 minutes. Davy Cashin guaranteed Celtic a cleansheet with a tremendous reflex save midway through the second half.
Unfortunately Clonmel Celtic B were unable to join the A team in the next round as they went down 4-2 away to Cahir. Damian Walshe and Darren Murphy were the scorers for Celtic.
