A difficult day for Clonmel Celtic yesterday as they crashed out of the FAI Junior Cup at the first hurdle going down 6-0 to Nenagh Celtic. The home side hit the front after 15 minutes with a well taken goal. On 25 minutes Nenagh doubled their lead when they were awarded a dubious penalty. Celtic responded well for the remainder of the half but trailed 2-0 at the break. Within 5 minutes of the restart the game was effectively over when Nenagh scored another penalty. They added three more and were good value for their win.
The Reserves had a tough trip away to Mullianhone in the 2nd Round of the Shield. Celtic had early claims for a penalty waved away. On 15 minutes, against the run of play, Celtic conceded a penalty that Mullinahone converted to take the lead. Celtic kept their heads and on 29 minutes Shane Mullen slipped in Damon Gregory who clinically finished to draw Celtic level. The second half was even with Celtic solid at the back and Barry Kiely and Kyle Kennedy bossing midfield. The game went to extra time with Celtic lookign dangerous following the introduction of Larry McGrath and Owen Lonergan. And with just 5 minutes of the clock Andy Hickey won it for Celtic with a tremendous effort from 25 yards.
