I'm sure it was a week that will live long in the memory of the South Tipperary players and coaching staff who took park in the Kennedy Cup 2019 in Limerick this week. Clonmel Celtic had a bigger interest than usual in this year's event with six of our players making up the 20 player South Tipperary squad. It was a tough start to the competition for South Tipp as they lost their opening group game 4-0 to Cork. However they bounced back on Wednesday morning with a 2-1 win against Cavan/Monaghan with Adam Zorgati becoming the first Clonmel Celtic player to score in Kennedy Cup. South Tipp went into their final game against leaders Longford still in with a chance of topping the group and when Adam Zorgati scored to level the game things were looking promising. Unfortunately it was Longford who got the all important next goal and went on to win the game 2-1 which meant South Tipperary finished third in the group. This meant entry to the Shield competition on Thursday where unfortunately one slip up was to prove costly as South Tipp went down 1-0 to Donegal. South Tipp had two games on Friday to decide their final position in the 2019 Kennedy Cup and they finished on a bit of a high. On Friday morning Celtic boys Ciaran Fitzpatrick and Daithi Hogan found the net as South Tipp beat Wicklow 4-0. This set up an all Munster clash with Clare to decide who finished 21st. Alex Greene became the fourth Celtic player to score in the competition as his goal got South Tipp back into the game at 2-1. Although they fell 3-1 behind the Tipp boys fought back to draw 3-3 and won the penalty shoot out in an exciting finish to the week. It was a great experience for all the South Tipp boys and memories to treasure for a life time. It's back to club football now as the Celtic boys will turn their attention to the U14 Premier League where they are well placed to challenge. It would be a truely memorable 2019 if Clonmel Celtic can win the TSSDL U14 title.
