The Sketchers 2019 Kennedy Cup is just one month away with the tournament kicking off in University Limerick on June 11th. Clonmel Celtic will have a greater interest that usual in this year's event as we currently have 8 players in the 24 player squad. My understanding is that the squad will be cut to 20 before they depart for Limerick but whatever happens it will still represent Clonmel Celtic's greatest number of players involved in a Kennedy Cup tournament. It has been a great time for all the players involved and they will have no doubt benefited from the experience and they will all return to their clubs as better players. Four of the Celtic players involved have been with the club since Academy years so it's great to see them having come this far and I'm sure all the coaches who have been involved with Jake Coffee, Dawid Grabowski, Adam Zorgatti and Alex Greene will be delighted with their progress. Julian Kerton and Senan Butler joined us from Clonmel Town last year while Ciaran Fitzpatrick and Daithi Hogan are recent arrivals from Clerihan so credit should also go to these local clubs for the work they have put into developing these boys over the years. South Tipperary are in Group 8 along with Cork, Longford and Cavan Monaghan and will kick off on June 11th with a local derby against Cork. This is a very tough competition and I think it's fair to say South Tipperary have finished 'down the field' in recent tournaments. However the squad under expert guidance of Eamon O'Dwyer and our own Tommy Kiely has prepared very well and I'm sure they are looking forward to the challenge. And if there's one thing we have learned this week is that nothing is impossible in soccer. Best of luck to all the squad as they make their final preparations in what must be a very proud time for their parents and families.
