Belated congratulations to the Clonmel Celtic U12 trio Dominik Mendel, Shane Ryan and Peter Boland who after a number of assessments in September made the County team. Here they will receive additional expert coaching and will also get the chance to play against the elite U12s from other counties and who knows where it will lead.
Just after the photo I told the boys to go out and show why they are county stars and what a response. Peter was sharp off his line and made a few important saves while both Dominik and Shane scored 2 each in yesterday's 4-3 win against St Kevins.
Indeed I remember when Dominik joined Clonmel Celtic Academy 5 years ago. He was quiet lad, then anyway!, and I think he found it a bit overwhelming and stopped coming after a few weeks. However in those few weeks I did see some potential so one day when I was dropping my daughter to Dominik's sister's birthday party I asked to see Dad Viktor and encouraged him to bring Dominik back the following season. This he did and as they say there was no looking back. I think there's a small lesson there for all parents trying to get their children involved in sport. It can be a bit daunting for some children at first but persevere and give them plenty of time as the rewards are well worth it.
Of course we should also remember the other Under 12 players who on this occasion didn't make it through the County assessments. Keep working hard, there's always next season and you'll always be valued at Clonmel Celtic!!
