We would like to share some information with you about the format of the U7-U11 leagues/games that are due to start next month.
In accordance with the FAI Player Development Plan games at this age groups are non-competitive i.e. scores and league tables are not kept.
In an attempt to produce more creative players the FAI wants the focus on these age groups to be player development as opposed to winning at all costs. One of the main features of games at these levels is that the goalkeeper is not permitted to kick the ball from his hands. Instead to build play from the back he must roll the ball out or pass to one of his defenders in a retreat zone where forwards cannot enter until defender touches the ball. This approach will obviously lead to more mistakes and probably to the concession of goals but we are asked to stick with this approach in the interest of player development.
We would encourage coaches and parents of children in these age groups to visit the coaching section of our website for access to more information and FAI tutorial videos on the format of non competitive games. We would also request parents to co-operate with coaches by repsonding promptly to any texts you may receive from coaches who are trying to organise games at these age categories. It's hugely frustrating when coaches don't get any response to texts they send enquiring about players availability for games etc. It makes what should be a fairly straight forward task difficult and unnecessarily complicated. Also if you child cannot attend a game or he has to withdraw on short notice can you please let the coach know as it may present an opportunity for another child to play.
U11 & U10 is 7v7;
U9 & U8 is 5v5;
U7 is 4v4.
