Under 12s manager George Hindley's reflections on the Mallow Cup
''A useful preseason workout today in the Mallow Cup. The standard was very high and the lads started brilliantly against Limerick side Fairview. Two good goals from John Brunnock and 1 from Cillian O'Brien after an audacious back heel from Mikey Maguire.
The second game against the hosts, a strong Mallow Utd saw Celtic dominate the game and play very well but failure to convert our chances cost us when a questionable decision from the ref to award a penalty against us despite the opposing player being clearly offside. The lads dug deep and pressed for an equaliser and were caught on the break for a second for an undeserved 2 nil defeat despite being the better side.
The third game against Killarney Celtic saw us try a new formation and several players in different roles and the lads played very well, Billy Quigley looking very dangerous down the right and new signing Jack Norris putting in a top performance & Tyler Aylward scoring a stunning opener. However we were caught twice soon after and found ourselves behind before another soft penalty ended the game for us. Peter Boland who had made several good saves throughout saved his best for last by pulling one right out of the top corner from point blank range with an astonishing bit of goalkeeping late on.
Many thanks to all that travelled down to give us great support despite the early start and well done to the lads as we look forward to the coming season''.
A difficult task was made even harder for the Under 13s as they were missing some key players. With two of last year's Munster finalists in their group it was a tough afternoon for Celtic who were unable to win a game. In fairness they put in a huge effort in their three group games and played very well in their last game that saw them lose 2-0 to Killarney Celtic.
