Clonmel Celtic Ladies season ended in disappointment as they went down 1-0 to Killenaule in the Tipperary Cup semi final in Ferryhouse last Sunday. It was a good game with a set piece goal from the visitors deciding the tie. Overall I think the Ladies can be fairly content with their season. They finished third place in the league and the fact that they beat both teams that finished above them in the League suggests they were not too far away. The biggest disappointment was the Shield. Having beaten the two best teams in the League on route, Killenaule and Dualla, they then had to forfeit the final as the day that was selected to play Shinrone a lot of the Celtic players were unavailable. With over a month left in the league season it's disappointing that a suitable date couldn't be found to suit both teams and suggests a system failure that the league should review. I'm sure Shinrone Ladies can't have been too happy to have won a competition without actually playing a game as they had also received a walk over in the semi final. Overall the unavailability of some key players for crucial games is probably why the Ladies came up just short. If they can get this right for next season I'm sure they can win some silverware.
