Season Review (Part 4).
Our final review of the season looks at our Ladies team and also our off the field activities. As you will be aware it's summer soccer for the Ladies and they are currently about half way through their season. The Ladies can be pleased with their season to date having already reached the Shield Final and they are also safely through to Round 2 of the Tipperary Cup. They had started their league campaign well but a couple of recent results have diminished their chances in this competition so they will probably have to settle for a mid table finish. Still they have plenty to play for and hopefully there may be some silverware at the end of the season.
The following are some of the highlights of our off the field activities:
- In January the club submitted an application under the Sports Capital Grant Scheme so hopefully we will have some good news on that front in September.
- We had two successful fundraisers during the season. Before Christmas we had the FAI National draw where we sold all 200 tickets. The popular Last Man Standing Competition ran from February to May where Joe Ryan and PJ Prenderville shared the €1000 prize fund. We hope to run both competitions again next season.
- We enjoyed success at county level with Under 12 duo of Ruairi Kelly and Eoin Condon invited to participate in the Emerging Talent Programme. While hoping for success in the local TSSDL for our Schoolboy teams we will also be hoping to increase the number of our players being called up for County and ETP coaching sessions.
- It was also a good year for Junior players Seanie O'Hara and David Joyce. O'Hara became only the second player to score over 100 goals for Celtic while Joyce won and international cap with the Republic of Ireland amateurs and finished the season with a trip to Turkey with the National Squad after they qualfied for the UEFA Regions Finals after coming through the qualifiers in Italy last September.
- In March our Under 11s and Under 12s enjoyed a trip to the Aviva Stadium for Ireland's World Cup Qualifier against Wales.
