Clonmel Celtic 3 Mullinahone 0 Under 16 Championship Final
Clonmel Celtic Under 16s completed the Under 16 Championship League and Cup double with a convincing 3-0 win against Mullinahone in Cahir this afternoon. Celtic started favourites having already beaten Mullinahone twice in the League this year but they looked nervous in the opening stages. Mullinahone could have taken the lead as early as the first minute when a ball over the top deceived the Celtic rearguard but Luke Condon got back to make a vital clearance. With Kieran Crotty and Ayo Williams beginning to stamp their authority in midfield Celtic got a foothold and the game began to turn in their favour. After two free kicks that didn't cause Mullinahone too much trouble Celtic hit the front on 21 minutes. A neat lay off by Jamie Doyle played in Gordon Rossiter and he fired home to give Celtic the lead. Before Mullinahone had time to regroup they were 2-0 down. This time Gordon Rossiter repaid the favour when his pin point centre was smashed home by Jamie Doyle to give Celtic a 2-0 lead that they held to the break. As expected Mullinahone rallied in the early stages of the second half but the Celtic defence superbly marshalled by Ross Gavin and Ruiari Burke held firm. Although Mullinahone were having more of the ball Celtic were still creating the clearer chances with Jamie Doyle and Ross Gavin coming close to extending the lead. With 15 minutes remaining Celtic keeper Billy Murphy produced an excellent block and a minute later the ball shaved the Celtic post from a header by Cillan White. With 5 minutes remaining Celtic sealed the victory with a sweetly struck shot from man of the match Ross Gavin that found the bottom corner. Celtic almost made it four in the last minute when Daniel Quigley hit the post but that would have been rough justice on a Mullinahone side that battled throughout and were very worthy finalists.
