The Under 12s got the perfect start to competitive football with a 1-0 win away to Peake Villa in the season opener. Unfortunately that was as good as it got for the Under 12s as they then went on a winless run that brought them up to Xmas. They were however very competitive during this period losing most games by just the odd goal. The new year brought a change in fortune with a morale boosting 3-1 win away to St Kevins that kick started a good run that saw them draw 1-1 with title chasing Bansha and also beat Clonmel Town 5-0. They couldn’t maintain this run and a 4-1 reversal in Cahir saw them end the season on a low that culminated in a disappointing 5-3 cup exit defeat to Clonmel. They eventually finished the season in 6th place, just a few points off a mid table position. Management feel that there is room for improvement in this squad of players so hopefully they can show signs of progression at Under 13 next season. On a positive note both Eoin Condon and Ruairi Kelly were called up to the County squad getting some valuable coaching sessions under the Emerging Talent Programme.
It was a challenging season for the Under 13s who competed in the Under 13 Championship. St Michaels were very strong in this league and won the division with a lot to spare. Celtic had their ups and downs and eventually had to settle for a mid table position.
It was a very successful season for the Under 16s who pulled off the Under 16 Championship League and Cup double. Celtic led the division from day one and stayed there for the entire season. They only lost one game in the league and were crowned deserving champions in April. A few weeks later they completed the double with a commanding 3-0 win against Mullinahone in the Cup final that was played on the All Weather at Cahir Park.
Like the Juniors Clonmel Celtic Youths had to be content with a third place finish in the TSDL Youth Premier League. A promising 3-2 derby win against Clonmel Town was followed a week later by a 1-0 defeat to Clerihan and this in a way set the template for the season. Due to various reasons Celtic rarely had a settled first 11 and this lead to inconsistent results resulting in a mid way finish in the league. Unable to make any impressions in cup competitions it was a distinctly average season for the Youths.
Next week we will continue the review with a look back at our Juniors.
